ABOUT: OUR STORY
Weâre Julie Stonefelt and Kevin Mackâyour guides to simple, seasonal, self-sufficient, and sustainable living.
We co-founded Wild Homestead Living because we believe a slower, more connected life isnât just possibleâitâs within reach, no matter where you call home. Whether you're in the city, the country, or somewhere in between, we're here to help you build the life youâve been dreaming ofâone season, one skill, and one small step at a time.
Â
We didnât grow up on farms. We werenât born into this way of living. But over the years, through trial, error, and a whole lot of heart, weâve built a life that feels right. Now, weâre here to help you do the same.

A Simple Framework for a Simple Life
Â
Learning new skills doesnât have to be overwhelming. We created a six-part framework to make it easier to grow, build, and create a life that feels more like home.

Â
đ± Planning & Mindset â Find your âwhyâ and set yourself up for success.
đĄ Home & Construction â Master the DIY basics and build a more self-sufficient home.
đ„ Food & Drink â From fresh-baked bread to homegrown preserves, bring the kitchen back to life.
đż Grow & Tend â Whether itâs a backyard garden or a single pot on a balcony, you can grow food.
đŠ Outdoors & Wildlife â Welcome nature into your life with wildlife-friendly spaces and simple outdoor skills.
𧔠Sew & Craft â Create with your hands, from handmade clothes to practical household goods.
You donât have to do it allâyou just have to start.
Our Life Hasnât Always Looked Like This. Not Even Close.Â

We met in the 1990s while working at a wildlife hospital, bonding over our love of nature, wild animals, and good conversation. Back then, we were living a life of convenience in the city, watching from the sidelines as others built the kind of life we longed for.
For years, homesteading felt like a someday dreamâtoo far away, too complicated, too out of reach.
Then everything changed. We were both diagnosed with life-threatening health conditions.Â
And when life puts things into perspective, you stop waiting for someday and start living your dreams now.
Â
CHECK OUT OUR MEDIA & SPEAKING INFOWe equipped our dreams with wings and leaped.
We left the city, and found ourselves in a rural corner of Washingtonâs Cascade Mountain foothills. But hereâs the thingâwe realized we had been homesteading all along.
Â
It didnât matter that we had started in a rental apartment. Or that we didnât fit the picture-perfect image of what a homesteader should be. What mattered was that we were learning, growing, and making it work, one small step at a time.
Â
And thatâs exactly what we want for you too.

You Donât Have to Have It All Figured Out. You Just Have to Begin.
Â
Wild Homestead Living isnât just about gardening, baking, or learning old-fashioned skills (though we love all those things!). Itâs about creating a life that feels more like home. A life thatâs connectedâto the seasons, the land, and the people around you.
So if youâve ever felt the pull toward a slower, simpler lifeâbut werenât sure where to startâyouâre in the right place.

Julie Stonefelt
Julie grew up with salt in her hair and sand between her toes, falling in love with nature along the shores of Puget Sound in the Great Pacific Northwest. That love led her to The Evergreen State College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree specializing in environmental education, cultural history, and wildlife rehabilitation.
For over 28 years, sheâs been helping people connect with the wild world around them, whether through her work as a Park Ranger or here at Wild Homestead Living. She believes that nature isnât just something out thereâitâs part of who we are. And no matter where you live, thereâs always a way to bring a little more of it into your life.

Kevin Mack
Originally from the Midwest, Kevin fell in love with the natural world on family road trips to National Parksâwhere every mountain, river, and wild creature sparked a lifelong passion. He followed that calling to Iowa State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Fisheries and Wildlife Biology, and eventually to the Great Pacific Northwest.Â
For over 33 years, heâs been dedicated to helping both animals and people, specializing in natural history and wildlife rehabilitation. By day, he serves as a Humane Law Enforcement Officer, ensuring animals are treated with care and respect. And through Wild Homestead Living, he shares his deep knowledge and love of the wild, helping others build a life thatâs more connected to nature, no matter where they are.
